Super League: Castleford Tigers rout Huddersfield Giants and York Knights edge Hull FC

Castleford Tigers and York Knights both responded from defeat the week before with important wins in Friday night's Super League week three action.

Castleford were inspired by a two-try Tom Weaver performance in a 34-8 win over Huddersfield that left the Giants still looking for their first point of the season.

York responded from a drubbing by Leeds Rhinos last week with a narrow 17-16 win against Hull FC, giving the Super League newcomers their second win in just three weeks in the top division.

Here's a round-up of all the action from Friday night's two Super League matches:

Castleford eased to a 34-8 victory to pick up a first win of the season and leave Huddersfield still seeking their first point.

Giants had won eight of the last nine meetings between the West Yorkshire rivals, but they were caught napping in the opening stages allowing Liam Hood to open the scoring with his second try of the season.

Darnell McIntosh, playing against his old club, then skipped between two tackles to add the second.

Huddersfield were down to 12 players when Taane Milne was sin-binned, and from the penalty George Lawler found the gap for number three.

Huddersfield finally got into the game before half-time, Jacob Gagai finishing off a rare fluent attack to make it 16-4 at the break.

Tom Weaver dived on to Daejarn Asi's grubber kick to increase the lead before George Flanagan responded with his fourth try of the season.

Cas were clinging on at times as Huddersfield tested their goal-line defence, but further tries from Weaver and debutant Ashton Golding - also against his former team - wrapped up the victory.

Huddersfield boss Luke Robinson speaking to Your Site:

"We were rubbish, absolute rubbish.

"It's a very simple game; if you hold on to the ball, you put them under a bit of pressure and put them under a little bit of stress, but we just dropped the ball over and over and over again."

Castleford head coach Ryan Carr speaking to Your Site:

"I thought it was a really tough performance from our boys.

"They're a team that never goes away, Huddersfield. So we knew we were going to be in for a fight for the full 80 minutes and that's something I'm really pleased about, that we came out in the second half and we played the full 40 minutes too."

David Nofoaluma scored twice on his York debut as the Knights came from 10-6 down to register a surprise 17-16 away win.

First blood went to the Super League newcomers after a flowing move ended with Nofoaluma going over in the corner.

Hull responded when, straight from the scrum, the ball was sent out to the right with Davy Litten powering through the York line.

Harvey Barron then got on his bike down the right to put Hull four points ahead at half-time.

But a Hull error was punished shortly after the break gifting Nofoaluma his second try of the night.

Ben Jones-Bishop went over in the corner to put York back into the lead and Danny Richardson's drop-goal stretched the advantage to seven.

Lewis Martin scored a late try for the hosts but a miserable night was capped with injuries to Barron and Aidan Sezer.

York Knights head coach Mark Applegarth speaking to Your Site:

"We're just going one week at a time.

"We'll back ourselves every day of the week. One of our main traits this year is showing up for one another and the togetherness."

Hull boss John Cartwright speaking to Your Site:

"We just had to make a lot of changes.

"We lost our way in the second half. They got a couple of tries, hit the lead and held on to it."
